All the World Guilty
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the benefit of circumcision?1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?1 Is there any advantage, then, in being a Jew? Or is there any value in being circumcised?1 Then what advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the profit of circumcision?1 What then is the superiority of the Jew? or what the profit of circumcision?
2 Great in every respect. First of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God.2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.2 There are all kinds of advantages. First of all, God entrusted them with his word.2 Much in every way! Because first of all, they were entrusted with the oracles of God.2 Much every way: and first, indeed, that to them were entrusted the oracles of God.
3 What then? If some did not believe, their unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it?3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?3 What if some of them were unfaithful? Can their unfaithfulness cancel God's faithfulness?3 For what if some were without faith? Will their lack of faith nullify the faithfulness of God?3 For what? if some have not believed, shall their unbelief make the faith of God of none effect?
4 May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written, "THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED IN YOUR WORDS, AND PREVAIL WHEN YOU ARE JUDGED."4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.4 That would be unthinkable! God is honest, and everyone else is a liar, as Scripture says, "So you hand down justice when you speak, and you win your case in court."4 May it never be! Yes, let God be found true, but every man a liar. As it is written, "That you might be justified in your words, and might prevail when you come into judgment."4 Far be the thought: but let God be true, and every man false; according as it is written, So that thou shouldest be justified in thy words, and shouldest overcome when thou art in judgment.
5 But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? The God who inflicts wrath is not unrighteous, is He? (I am speaking in human terms.)5 But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)5 But if what we do wrong shows that God is fair, what should we say? Is God unfair when he vents his anger on us? (I'm arguing the way humans would.)5 But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what will we say? Is God unrighteous who inflicts wrath? I speak like men do.5 But if our unrighteousness commend God's righteousness, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who inflicts wrath? I speak according to man.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 May it never be! For otherwise, how will God judge the world?6 God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?6 That's unthinkable! Otherwise, how would God be able to judge the world?6 May it never be! For then how will God judge the world?6 Far be the thought: since how shall God judge the world?
7 But if through my lie the truth of God abounded to His glory, why am I also still being judged as a sinner?7 For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?7 If my lie increases the glory that God receives by showing that God is truthful, why am I still judged as a sinner?7 For if the truth of God through my lie abounded to his glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner?7 For if the truth of God, in my lie, has more abounded to his glory, why yet am I also judged as a sinner?
8 And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), "Let us do evil that good may come "? Their condemnation is just.8 And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.8 Or can we say, "Let's do evil so that good will come from it"? Some slander us and claim that this is what we say. They are condemned, and that's what they deserve.8 Why not (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), "Let us do evil, that good may come?" Those who say so are justly condemned.8 and not, according as we are injuriously charged, and according as some affirm that we say, Let us practise evil things, that good ones may come? whose judgment is just.
9 What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin;9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;9 What, then, is the situation? Do we have any advantage? Not at all. We have already accused everyone (both Jews and Greeks) of being under the power of sin,9 What then? Are we better than they? No, in no way. For we previously warned both Jews and Greeks, that they are all under sin.9 What then? are we better? No, in no wise: for we have before charged both Jews and Greeks with being all under sin:
10 as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:10 as Scripture says, "Not one person has God's approval.10 As it is written, "There is no one righteous; no, not one.10 according as it is written, There is not a righteous man, not even one;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD;11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.11 No one understands. No one searches for God.11 There is no one who understands. There is no one who seeks after God.11 there is not the man that understands, there is not one that seeks after God.
12 ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE."12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.12 Everyone has turned away. Together they have become rotten to the core. No one does anything good, not even one person.12 They have all turned aside. They have together become unprofitable. There is no one who does good, no, not, so much as one."12 All have gone out of the way, they have together become unprofitable; there is not one that practises goodness, there is not so much as one:
13 "THEIR THROAT IS AN OPEN GRAVE, WITH THEIR TONGUES THEY KEEP DECEIVING," "THE POISON OF ASPS IS UNDER THEIR LIPS";13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:13 Their throats are open graves. Their tongues practice deception. Their lips hide the venom of poisonous snakes.13 "Their throat is an open tomb. With their tongues they have used deceit." "The poison of vipers is under their lips;"13 their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; asps' poison is under their lips:
14 "WHOSE MOUTH IS FULL OF CURSING AND BITTERNESS";14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:14 Their mouths are full of curses and bitter resentment.14 "whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness."14 whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness;
15 "THEIR FEET ARE SWIFT TO SHED BLOOD,15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:15 They run quickly to murder people.15 "Their feet are swift to shed blood.15 swift their feet to shed blood;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 DESTRUCTION AND MISERY ARE IN THEIR PATHS,16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:16 There is ruin and suffering wherever they go.16 Destruction and misery are in their ways.16 ruin and misery are in their ways,
17 AND THE PATH OF PEACE THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN."17 And the way of peace have they not known:17 They have not learned to live in peace.17 The way of peace, they haven't known."17 and way of peace they have not known:
18 "THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD BEFORE THEIR EYES."18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.18 They are not terrified of God."18 "There is no fear of God before their eyes."18 there is no fear of God before their eyes.
19 Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God;19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.19 We know that whatever is in Moses' Teachings applies to everyone under their influence, and no one can say a thing. The whole world is brought under the judgment of God.19 Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.19 Now we know that whatever the things the law says, it speaks to those under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world be under judgment to God.
20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.20 Not one person can have God's approval by following Moses' Teachings. Moses' Teachings show what sin is.20 Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin.20 Wherefore by works of law no flesh shall be justified before him; for by law is knowledge of sin.
Justification by Faith
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;21 Now, the way to receive God's approval has been made plain in a way other than Moses' Teachings. Moses' Teachings and the Prophets tell us this.21 But now apart from the law, a righteousness of God has been revealed, being testified by the law and the prophets;21 But now without law righteousness of God is manifested, borne witness to by the law and the prophets;
22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction;22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:22 Everyone who believes has God's approval through faith in Jesus Christ. There is no difference between people.22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ to all and on all those who believe. For there is no distinction,22 righteousness of God by faith of Jesus Christ towards all,and upon all those who believe: for there is no difference;
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;23 Because all people have sinned, they have fallen short of God's glory.23 for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God;23 for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:24 They receive God's approval freely by an act of his kindness through the price Christ Jesus paid to set us free [from sin]. 24 being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus;24 being justified freely by his grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;25 God showed that Christ is the throne of mercy where God's approval is given through faith in Christ's blood. In his patience God waited to deal with sins committed in the past.25 whom God set forth to be an atoning sacrifice, through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness through the passing over of prior sins, in God's forbearance;25 whom God has set forth a mercy-seat, through faith in his blood, for the shewing forth of his righteousness, in respect of the passing by the sins that had taken place before, through the forbearance of God;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.26 He waited so that he could display his approval at the present time. This shows that he is a God of justice, a God who approves of people who believe in Jesus.26 to demonstrate his righteousness at this present time; that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him who has faith in Jesus.26 for the shewing forth of his righteousness in the present time, so that he should be just, and justify him that is of the faith of Jesus.
27 Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.27 So, do we have anything to brag about? Bragging has been eliminated. On what basis was it eliminated? On the basis of our own efforts? No, indeed! Rather, it is eliminated on the basis of faith.27 Where then is the boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.27 Where then is boasting? It has been excluded. By what law? of works? Nay, but by law of faith;
28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.28 We conclude that a person has God's approval by faith, not by his own efforts.28 We maintain therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.28 for we reckon that a man is justified by faith, without works of law.
29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:29 Is God only the God of the Jews? Isn't he also the God of people who are not Jewish? Certainly, he is,29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Isn't he the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,29 Is God the God of Jews only? is he not of the nations also? Yea, of nations also:
30 since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one.30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.30 since it is the same God who approves circumcised people by faith and uncircumcised people through this same faith.30 since indeed there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith, and the uncircumcised through faith.30 since indeed it is one God who shall justify the circumcision on the principle of faith, and uncircumcision by faith.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
31 Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law.31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.31 Are we abolishing Moses' Teachings by this faith? That's unthinkable! Rather, we are supporting Moses' Teachings.31 Do we then nullify the law through faith? May it never be! No, we establish the law.31 Do we then make void law by faith? Far be the thought: no, but we establish law.
