Abraham’s Treachery
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Now Abraham journeyed from there toward the land of the Negev, and settled between Kadesh and Shur; then he sojourned in Gerar.1 And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.1 Abraham moved to the Negev and settled between Kadesh and Shur. While he was living in Gerar,1 Abraham traveled from there toward the land of the South, and lived between Kadesh and Shur. He lived as a foreigner in Gerar.1 And Abraham departed thence towards the south country, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned at Gerar.
Abraham said of Sarah his wife, "She is my sister." So Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.2 Abraham told everyone that his wife Sarah was his sister. So King Abimelech of Gerar sent men to take Sarah.2 Abraham said about Sarah his wife, "She is my sister." Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister. And Abimelech the king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.
But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, "Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is married."3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.3 God came to Abimelech in a dream one night and said to him, "You're going to die because of the woman that you've taken! She's a married woman!"3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, "Behold, you are a dead man, because of the woman whom you have taken. For she is a man's wife."3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, because of the woman that thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.
Now Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, "Lord, will You slay a nation, even though blameless?4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, LORD, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?4 Abimelech hadn't come near her, so he asked, "Lord, will you destroy a nation even if it's innocent?4 Now Abimelech had not come near her. He said, "Lord, will you kill even a righteous nation?4 But Abimelech had not come near her. And he said, Lord, wilt thou also kill a righteous nation?
"Did he not himself say to me, 'She is my sister '? And she herself said, 'He is my brother.' In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands I have done this."5 Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.5 Didn't he tell me himself, 'She's my sister,' and didn't she even say, 'He's my brother'? I did this in all innocence and with a clear conscience."5 Didn't he tell me, 'She is my sister?' She, even she herself, said, 'He is my brother.' In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands have I done this."5 Did he not say to me, She is my sister? and she, even she said, He is my brother. In the integrity of my heart and in the innocency of my hands have I done this.

Then God said to him in the dream, "Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also kept you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her.6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.6 "Yes, I know that you did this with a clear conscience," God said to him in the dream. "In fact, I kept you from sinning against me. That's why I didn't let you touch her.6 God said to him in the dream, "Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also withheld you from sinning against me. Therefore I didn't allow you to touch her.6 And God said to him in a dream, I also knew that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart, and I, too, have withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore have I not suffered thee to touch her.
"Now therefore, restore the man's wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours."7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.7 Give the man's wife back to him now, because he's a prophet. He will pray for you, and you will live. But if you don't give her back, you and all who belong to you are doomed to die."7 Now therefore, restore the man's wife. For he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live. If you don't restore her, know for sure that you will die, you, and all who are yours."7 And now, restore the man's wife; for he is a prophet, and will pray for thee, that thou mayest live. And if thou do not restore her, know that thou shalt certainly die, thou and all that is thine.
So Abimelech arose early in the morning and called all his servants and told all these things in their hearing; and the men were greatly frightened.8 Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.8 Early in the morning Abimelech called together all his officials. He told them about all of this, and they were terrified.8 Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ear. The men were very scared.8 And Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and spoke all these words in their ears; and the men were greatly afraid.
Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, "What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me things that ought not to be done."9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.9 Then Abimelech called for Abraham and asked him, "What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you that you would bring such a serious sin on me and my kingdom? You shouldn't have done this to me."9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, "What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done!"9 And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, What hast thou done to us? And in what have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought on me, and on my kingdom, a great sin? Thou hast done to me deeds that ought not to be done.
And Abimelech said to Abraham, "What have you encountered, that you have done this thing?"10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?10 Abimelech also asked Abraham, "What were you thinking when you did this?"10 Abimelech said to Abraham, "What did you see, that you have done this thing?"10 And Abimelech said to Abraham, What hast thou seen that thou hast done this?

Abraham said, "Because I thought, surely there is no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.11 Abraham said, "I thought that because there are no God-fearing people in this place, I'd be killed because of my wife.11 Abraham said, "Because I thought, 'Surely the fear of God is not in this place. They will kill me for my wife's sake.'11 And Abraham said, Because I said, Surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they will kill me for my wife's sake.
"Besides, she actually is my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife;12 And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.12 Besides, she is my sister-my father's daughter but not my mother's. She is also my wife.12 Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.12 But she is also truly my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
and it came about, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said to her, 'This is the kindness which you will show to me: everywhere we go, say of me, "He is my brother."'"13 And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt show unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.13 When God had me leave my father's home and travel around, I said to her, 'Do me a favor: Wherever we go, say that I'm your brother.'"13 It happened, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said to her, 'This is your kindness which you shall show to me. Everywhere that we go, say of me, "He is my brother."'"13 And it came to pass when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said to her, Let this be thy kindness which thou shalt shew to me: at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
Abimelech then took sheep and oxen and male and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored his wife Sarah to him.14 And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.14 Then Abimelech took sheep, cattle, and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham. He also gave his wife Sarah back to him.14 Abimelech took sheep and cattle, male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored Sarah, his wife, to him.14 And Abimelech took sheep and oxen, and bondmen and bondwomen, and gave them to Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
Abimelech said, "Behold, my land is before you; settle wherever you please."15 And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.15 Abimelech said, "Look, here's my land. Live anywhere you like."15 Abimelech said, "Behold, my land is before you. Dwell where it pleases you."15 And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it is good in thine eyes.

To Sarah he said, "Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver; behold, it is your vindication before all who are with you, and before all men you are cleared."16 And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.16 He said to Sarah, "Don't forget, I've given your brother 25 pounds of silver. This is to silence any criticism against you from everyone with you. You're completely cleared."16 To Sarah he said, "Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. Behold, it is for you a covering of the eyes to all that are with you. In front of all you are vindicated."16 And to Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver; behold, let that be to thee a covering of the eyes, in respect of all that are with thee, and with all; and she was reproved.
Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech and his wife and his maids, so that they bore children.17 So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.17 Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female slaves so that they could have children.17 Abraham prayed to God. God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his female servants, and they bore children.17 And Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, and his wife and his handmaids, and they bore children.
For the LORD had closed fast all the wombs of the household of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.18 For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.18 (The LORD had made it impossible for any woman in Abimelech's household to have children because of Abraham's wife Sarah.)18 For Yahweh had closed up tight all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.18 For Jehovah had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah Abraham's wife.
