Be Imitators of God
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;1 Imitate God, since you are the children he loves.1 Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children.1 Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children,
2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.2 Live in love as Christ also loved us. He gave his life for us as an offering and sacrifice, a soothing aroma to God.2 Walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance.2 and walk in love, even as the Christ loved us, and delivered himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour.
3 But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints;3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;3 Don't let sexual sin, perversion of any kind, or greed even be mentioned among you. This is not appropriate behavior for God's holy people.3 But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints;3 But fornication and all uncleanness or unbridled lust, let it not be even named among you, as it becomes saints;
4 and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.4 It's not right that dirty stories, foolish talk, or obscene jokes should be mentioned among you either. Instead, give thanks [to God].4 nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not appropriate; but rather giving of thanks.4 and filthiness and foolish talking, or jesting, which are not convenient; but rather thanksgiving.
5 For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.5 You know very well that no person who is involved in sexual sin, perversion, or greed (which means worshiping wealth) can have any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.5 Know this for sure, that no sexually immoral person, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and God.5 For this ye are well informed of, knowing that no fornicator, or unclean person, or person of unbridled lust, who is an idolater, has inheritance in the kingdom of the Christ and God.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.6 Don't let anyone deceive you with meaningless words. It is because of sins like these that God's anger comes to those who refuse to obey him.6 Let no one deceive you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience.6 Let no one deceive you with vain words, for on account of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
7 Therefore do not be partakers with them;7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.7 Don't be partners with them.7 Therefore don't be partakers with them.7 Be not ye therefore fellow-partakers with them;
8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:8 Once you lived in the dark, but now the Lord has filled you with light. Live as children who have light.8 For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,8 for ye were once darkness, but now light in the Lord; walk as children of light,
9 (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth),9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)9 Light produces everything that is good, that has God's approval, and that is true.9 for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth,9 (for the fruit of the light is in all goodness and righteousness and truth,)
10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.10 Determine which things please the Lord.10 proving what is well pleasing to the Lord.10 proving what is agreeable to the Lord;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.11 Have nothing to do with the useless works that darkness produces. Instead, expose them for what they are.11 Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them.11 and do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather also reprove them,
12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.12 It is shameful to talk about what some people do in secret.12 For the things which are done by them in secret, it is a shame even to speak of.12 for the things that are done by them in secret it is shameful even to say.
13 But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.13 Light exposes the true character of everything13 But all things, when they are reproved, are revealed by the light, for everything that reveals is light.13 But all things having their true character exposed by the light are made manifest; for that which makes everything manifest is light.
14 For this reason it says, "Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you."14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.14 because light makes everything easy to see. That's why it says: "Wake up, sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." 14 Therefore he says, "Awake, you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."14 Wherefore he says, Wake up, thou that sleepest, and arise up from among the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.
15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise,15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,15 So then, be very careful how you live. Don't live like foolish people but like wise people.15 Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise;15 See therefore how ye walk carefully, not as unwise but as wise,
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil.16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.16 Make the most of your opportunities because these are evil days.16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.17 So don't be foolish, but understand what the Lord wants.17 Therefore don't be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.17 For this reason be not foolish, but understanding what is the will of the Lord.
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;18 Don't get drunk on wine, which leads to wild living. Instead, be filled with the Spirit?your[ spirit.">]18 Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,18 And be not drunk with wine, in which is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit,
19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;19 by reciting psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs for your own good. Sing and make music to the Lord with your hearts.19 speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; singing, and making melody in your heart to the Lord;19 speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and chanting with your heart to the Lord;
20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;20 Always thank God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.20 giving thanks always concerning all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God, even the Father;20 giving thanks at all times for all things to him who is God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.21 Place yourselves under each other's authority out of respect for Christ.21 subjecting yourselves one to another in the fear of Christ.21 submitting yourselves to one another in the fear of Christ.
Marriage Like Christ and the Church
22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.22 Wives, place yourselves under your husbands' authority as you have placed yourselves under the Lord's authority.22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord,
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.23 The husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. It is his body, and he is its Savior.23 For the husband is the head of the wife, and Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body.23 for a husband is head of the wife, as also the Christ is head of the assembly. He is Saviour of the body.
24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.24 As the church is under Christ's authority, so wives are under their husbands' authority in everything.24 But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything.24 But even as the assembly is subjected to the Christ, so also wives to their own husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her,25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;25 Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave his life for it.25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it;25 Husbands, love your own wives, even as the Christ also loved the assembly, and has delivered himself up for it,
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,26 He did this to make the church holy by cleansing it, washing it using water along with spoken words.26 that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word,26 in order that he might sanctify it, purifying it by the washing of water by the word,
27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.27 Then he could present it to himself as a glorious church, without any kind of stain or wrinkle-holy and without faults.27 that he might present the assembly to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.27 that he might present the assembly to himself glorious, having no spot, or wrinkle, or any of such things; but that it might be holy and blameless.
28 So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.28 So husbands must love their wives as they love their own bodies. A man who loves his wife loves himself.28 Even so husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself.28 So ought men also to love their own wives as their own bodies: he that loves his own wife loves himself.
29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:29 No one ever hated his own body. Instead, he feeds and takes care of it, as Christ takes care of the church.29 For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord also does the assembly;29 For no one has ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as also the Christ the assembly:
30 because we are members of His body.30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.30 We are parts of his body.30 because we are members of his body, of his flesh and bones.30 for we are members of his body; we are of his flesh, and of his bones.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
31 FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND SHALL BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.31 That's why a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two will be one.31 "For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh."31 Because of this a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be united to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh.
32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.32 This is a great mystery. (I'm talking about Christ's relationship to the church.)32 This mystery is great, but I speak concerning Christ and of the assembly.32 This mystery is great, but I speak as to Christ, and as to the assembly.
33 Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.33 But every husband must love his wife as he loves himself, and wives should respect their husbands.33 Nevertheless each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband.33 But ye also, every one of you, let each so love his own wife as himself; but as to the wife I speak that she may fear the husband.
