1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the church of God which is at Corinth with all the saints who are throughout Achaia:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:1 From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and from Timothy our brother. To God's church in the city of Corinth and to all God's holy people everywhere in Greece.1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the assembly of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia:1 Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ by God's will, and the brother Timotheus, to the assembly of God which is in Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia.
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.2 Good will and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ are yours! 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.2 Grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;3 Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! He is the Father who is compassionate and the God who gives comfort.3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort;3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassions, and God of all encouragement;
4 who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.4 He comforts us whenever we suffer. That is why whenever other people suffer, we are able to comfort them by using the same comfort we have received from God.4 who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.4 who encourages us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to encourage those who are in any tribulation whatever, through the encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged of God.
5 For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.5 Because Christ suffered so much for us, we can receive so much comfort from him.5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound to us, even so our comfort also abounds through Christ.5 Because, even as the sufferings of the Christ abound towards us, so through the Christ does our encouragement also abound.

6 But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer;6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.6 Besides, if we suffer, it brings you comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, we can effectively comfort you when you endure the same sufferings that we endure.6 But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer.6 But whether we are in tribulation, it is for your encouragement and salvation, wrought in the endurance of the same sufferings which we also suffer,
7 and our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that as you are sharers of our sufferings, so also you are sharers of our comfort.7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.7 We have confidence in you. We know that as you share our sufferings, you also share our comfort.7 Our hope for you is steadfast, knowing that, since you are partakers of the sufferings, so also are you of the comfort.7 (and our hope for you is sure;) or whether we are encouraged, it is for your encouragement and salvation: knowing that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so also of the encouragement.
8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life;8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:8 Brothers and sisters, we don't want you to be ignorant about the suffering we experienced in the province of Asia. It was so extreme that it was beyond our ability to endure. We even wondered if we could go on living.8 For we don't desire to have you uninformed, brothers, concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life.8 For we do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, as to our tribulation which happened to us in Asia, that we were excessively pressed beyond our power, so as to despair even of living.
9 indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:9 In fact, we still feel as if we're under a death sentence. But we suffered so that we would stop trusting ourselves and learn to trust God, who brings the dead back to life.9 Yes, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead,9 But we ourselves had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not have our trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;
10 who delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us, He on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us,10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;10 He has rescued us from a terrible death, and he will rescue us in the future. We are confident that he will continue to rescue us,10 who delivered us out of so great a death, and does deliver; on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us;10 who has delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver; in whom we confide that he will also yet deliver;

11 you also joining in helping us through your prayers, so that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the favor bestowed on us through the prayers of many.11 Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.11 since you are also joining to help us when you pray for us. Then many people will thank God for the favor he will show us because many people prayed for us.11 you also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift bestowed on us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on your behalf.11 ye also labouring together by supplication for us that the gift towards us, through means of many persons, may be the subject of the thanksgiving of many for us.
Paul’s Integrity
12 For our proud confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and godly sincerity, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you.12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.12 We are proud that our conscience is clear. We are proud of the way that we have lived in this world. We have lived with a God-given holiness and sincerity, especially toward you. It was not by human wisdom that we have lived but by God's kindness. 12 For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you.12 For our boasting is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and sincerity before God, (not in fleshly wisdom but in God's grace,) we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly towards you.
13 For we write nothing else to you than what you read and understand, and I hope you will understand until the end;13 For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;13 We are only writing you what you already knew before you read this. I hope you will understand this as long as you live,13 For we write no other things to you, than what you read or even acknowledge, and I hope you will acknowledge to the end;13 For we do not write other things to you but what ye well know and recognise; and I hope that ye will recognise to the end,
14 just as you also partially did understand us, that we are your reason to be proud as you also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus.14 As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are our's in the day of the Lord Jesus.14 even though you now understand it only partially. We are your reason to be proud, as you will be our reason to be proud on the day of our Lord Jesus.14 as also you acknowledged us in part, that we are your boasting, even as you also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus.14 even as also ye have recognised us in part, that we are your boast, even as ye are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.
15 In this confidence I intended at first to come to you, so that you might twice receive a blessing;15 And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;15 Confident of this, I had previously wanted to visit you so that you could benefit twice.15 In this confidence, I was determined to come first to you, that you might have a second benefit;15 And with this confidence I purposed to come to you previously, that ye might have a second favour;

16 that is, to pass your way into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and by you to be helped on my journey to Judea.16 And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.16 My plans had been to go from the city of Corinth to the province of Macedonia. Then from Macedonia I had planned to return to you again in Corinth and have you support my trip to Judea.16 and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and to be sent forward by you on my journey to Judea.16 and to pass through to Macedonia by you, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and to be set forward by you to Judaea.
17 Therefore, I was not vacillating when I intended to do this, was I? Or what I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, so that with me there will be yes, yes and no, no at the same time?17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?17 You don't think that I made these plans lightly, do you? Do you think that when I make plans, I make them in a sinful way? Why would I say that something is true when it isn't?17 When I therefore was thus determined, did I show fickleness? Or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the "Yes, yes" and the "No, no?"17 Having therefore this purpose, did I then use lightness? Or what I purpose, do I purpose according to flesh, that there should be with me yea yea, and nay nay?
18 But as God is faithful, our word to you is not yes and no.18 But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.18 You can depend on God. Our message to you isn't false; it's true.18 But as God is faithful, our word toward you was not "Yes and no."18 Now God is faithful, that our word to you is not yea and nay.
19 For the Son of God, Christ Jesus, who was preached among you by us-- by me and Silvanus and Timothy-- was not yes and no, but is yes in Him.19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.19 God's Son, Jesus Christ, whom I, Silvanus, and Timothy told you about, was true not false. Because of him our message was always true.19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, by me, Silvanus, and Timothy, was not "Yes and no," but in him is "Yes."19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, he who has been preached by us among you (by me and Silvanus and Timotheus), did not become yea and nay, but yea is in him.
20 For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.20 Certainly, Christ made God's many promises come true. For that reason, because of our message, people also honor God by saying, "Amen!"20 For however many are the promises of God, in him is the "Yes." Therefore also through him is the "Amen," to the glory of God through us.20 For whatever promises of God there are, in him is the yea, and in him the amen, for glory to God by us.

21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God,21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;21 God establishes us, together with you, in a relationship with Christ. 23 But I call God as witness to my soul, that to spare you I did not come again to Corinth.23 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.23 I appeal to God as a witness on my behalf, that I stayed away from Corinth because I wanted to spare you.23 But I call God for a witness to my soul, that I didn't come to Corinth to spare you.23 But I call God to witness upon my soul that to spare you I have not yet come to Corinth.
24 Not that we lord it over your faith, but are workers with you for your joy; for in your faith you are standing firm.24 Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.24 It isn't that we want to have control over your Christian faith. Rather, we want to work with you so that you will be happy. Certainly, you are firmly established in the Christian faith.24 Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are fellow workers with you for your joy. For you stand firm in faith.24 Not that we rule over your faith, but are fellow-workmen of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
