Jerusalem Is Captured
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 Now it came about after the death of Joshua that the sons of Israel inquired of the LORD, saying, "Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them?"1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?1 After Joshua's death the Israelites asked the LORD, "Who will go first to fight the Canaanites for us?"1 It happened after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, "Who should go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?"1 After the death of Joshua the people of Israel inquired of the LORD, "Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them?"
 The LORD said, "Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand."2 And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.2 The LORD answered, "Judah's troops will go first. I am about to hand the Canaanites over to you."2 Yahweh said, "Judah shall go up. Behold, I have delivered the land into his hand."2 The LORD said, "Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand."
 Then Judah said to Simeon his brother, "Come up with me into the territory allotted me, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I in turn will go with you into the territory allotted you." So Simeon went with him.3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.3 The tribe of Judah said to the tribe of Simeon, "Come with us into the territory given to us when we drew lots, and together we will fight the people of Canaan. Then we'll go with you into your territory." So the tribe of Simeon went along with Judah.3 Judah said to Simeon his brother, "Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with you into your lot." So Simeon went with him.3 And Judah said to Simeon his brother, "Come up with me into the territory allotted to me, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with you into the territory allotted to you." So Simeon went with him.
 Judah went up, and the LORD gave the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hands, and they defeated ten thousand men at Bezek.4 And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.4 Judah's troops went into battle, and the LORD handed the Canaanites and Perizzites over to them. They defeated 10,000 men at Bezek.4 Judah went up; and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they struck of them in Bezek ten thousand men.4 Then Judah went up and the LORD gave the Canaanites and the Per'izzites into their hand; and they defeated ten thousand of them at Bezek.
 They found Adoni-bezek in Bezek and fought against him, and they defeated the Canaanites and the Perizzites.5 And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.5 At Bezek they also caught up with Adoni Bezek. They fought him and defeated the Canaanites and Perizzites.5 They found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek; and they fought against him, and they struck the Canaanites and the Perizzites.5 They came upon Ado'ni-be'zek at Bezek, and fought against him, and defeated the Canaanites and the Per'izzites.

 But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and big toes.6 But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.6 Adoni Bezek fled. Judah's troops chased him, caught him, and cut off his thumbs and big toes.6 But Adoni-Bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.6 Ado'ni-be'zek fled; but they pursued him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
 Adoni-bezek said, "Seventy kings with their thumbs and their big toes cut off used to gather up scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me." So they brought him to Jerusalem and he died there.7 And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.7 Adoni Bezek said, "Seventy kings who had their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up food under my table. God has paid me back for what I did to them." Judah's troops brought Adoni Bezek to Jerusalem, where he died.7 Adoni-Bezek said, "Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered [their food] under my table: as I have done, so God has requited me." They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.7 And Ado'ni-be'zek said, "Seventy kings with their thumbs and their great toes cut off used to pick up scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has requited me." And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
 Then the sons of Judah fought against Jerusalem and captured it and struck it with the edge of the sword and set the city on fire.8 Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.8 The men of Judah attacked Jerusalem and captured it. They killed everyone there and set the city on fire.8 The children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.8 And the men of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
 Afterward the sons of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites living in the hill country and in the Negev and in the lowland.9 And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.9 After that, the men of Judah went to fight the Canaanites who lived in the mountains, the Negev, and the foothills.9 Afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who lived in the hill country, and in the South, and in the lowland.9 And afterward the men of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who dwelt in the hill country, in the Negeb, and in the lowland.
 So Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron (now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba); and they struck Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.10 And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.10 Then they went to fight the Canaanites who lived at Hebron. (In the past Hebron was called Kiriath Arba.) There they killed Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.10 Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron (now the name of Hebron before was Kiriath Arba); and they struck Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.10 And Judah went against the Canaanites who dwelt in Hebron (now the name of Hebron was formerly Kir'iath-ar'ba); and they defeated She'shai and Ahi'man and Talmai.

 Then from there he went against the inhabitants of Debir (now the name of Debir formerly was Kiriath-sepher).11 And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:11 From there Judah's troops went to fight the people living at Debir. (In the past Debir was called Kiriath Sepher.)11 From there he went against the inhabitants of Debir. (Now the name of Debir before was Kiriath Sepher.)11 From there they went against the inhabitants of Debir. The name of Debir was formerly Kir'iath-se'pher.
 And Caleb said, "The one who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will even give him my daughter Achsah for a wife."12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.12 Caleb said, "I will give my daughter Achsah as a wife to whoever defeats Kiriath Sepher and captures it."12 Caleb said, "He who strikes Kiriath Sepher, and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife."12 And Caleb said, "He who attacks Kir'iath-se'pher and takes it, I will give him Achsah my daughter as wife."
 Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, captured it; so he gave him his daughter Achsah for a wife.13 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.13 Then Othniel, son of Caleb's younger brother Kenaz, captured it. So Caleb gave him his daughter Achsah as a wife.13 Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.13 And Oth'ni-el the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.
 Then it came about when she came to him, that she persuaded him to ask her father for a field. Then she alighted from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, "What do you want?"14 And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?14 When she came to Othniel, she persuaded him to ask her father for a field. When she got down from her donkey, Caleb asked her, "What do you want?"14 It happened, when she came [to him], that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she alighted from off her donkey; and Caleb said to her, "What would you like?"14 When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field; and she alighted from her ass, and Caleb said to her, "What do you wish?"
 She said to him, "Give me a blessing, since you have given me the land of the Negev, give me also springs of water." So Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.15 And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.15 She answered, "Give me a blessing. Since you've given me some dry land, also give me some springs." So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.15 She said to him, "Give me a blessing; for that you have set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water." Then Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.15 She said to him, "Give me a present; since you have set me in the land of the Negeb, give me also springs of water." And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

 The descendants of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up from the city of palms with the sons of Judah, to the wilderness of Judah which is in the south of Arad; and they went and lived with the people.16 And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.16 The descendants of Moses' father-in-law, the Kenite, went with the people of Judah from the City of Palms into the desert of Judah. There they lived with the people of Judah in the Negev near Arad.16 The children of the Kenite, Moses' brother-in-law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and lived with the people.16 And the descendants of the Ken'ite, Moses' father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near Arad; and they went and settled with the people.
 Then Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they struck the Canaanites living in Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. So the name of the city was called Hormah.17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.17 The tribe of Judah went to fight along with the tribe of Simeon, their close relatives. They defeated the Canaanites who lived in Zephath and claimed it for the LORD by destroying it. So the city was called Hormah [Claimed for Destruction].17 Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they struck the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. The name of the city was called Hormah.17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they defeated the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. So the name of the city was called Hormah.
 And Judah took Gaza with its territory and Ashkelon with its territory and Ekron with its territory.18 Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.18 Judah also captured Gaza, Ashkelon, and Ekron with their territories.18 Also Judah took Gaza with its border, and Ashkelon with its border, and Ekron with its border.18 Judah also took Gaza with its territory, and Ash'kelon with its territory, and Ekron with its territory.
 Now the LORD was with Judah, and they took possession of the hill country; but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley because they had iron chariots.19 And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.19 The LORD was with the men of Judah so that they were able to take possession of the mountains. But they could not force out the people living in the valley who had chariots made of iron.19 Yahweh was with Judah; and drove out [the inhabitants of] the hill country; for he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.19 And the LORD was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, but he could not drive out the inhabitants of the plain, because they had chariots of iron.
 Then they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had promised; and he drove out from there the three sons of Anak.20 And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.20 As Moses had promised, Hebron was given to Caleb, who forced out the three sons of Anak.20 They gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had spoken: and he drove out there the three sons of Anak.20 And Hebron was given to Caleb, as Moses had said; and he drove out from it the three sons of Anak.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 But the sons of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who lived in Jerusalem; so the Jebusites have lived with the sons of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.21 And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.21 The men of Benjamin did not force out the Jebusites who lived in Jerusalem. The Jebusites still live with the tribe of Benjamin in Jerusalem today.21 The children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.21 But the people of Benjamin did not drive out the Jeb'usites who dwelt in Jerusalem; so the Jeb'usites have dwelt with the people of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.
 Likewise the house of Joseph went up against Bethel, and the LORD was with them.22 And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.22 The descendants of Joseph also went into battle against Bethel, and the LORD was with them.22 The house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel; and Yahweh was with them.22 The house of Joseph also went up against Bethel; and the LORD was with them.
 The house of Joseph spied out Bethel (now the name of the city was formerly Luz).23 And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)23 They sent men to spy on Bethel. (In the past the city was called Luz.)23 The house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)23 And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel. (Now the name of the city was formerly Luz.)
 The spies saw a man coming out of the city and they said to him, "Please show us the entrance to the city and we will treat you kindly."24 And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Show us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will show thee mercy.24 The spies saw a man coming out of the city. They told him, "Show us how we can get into the city, and we'll treat you kindly."24 The watchers saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said to him, "Please show us the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with you."24 And the spies saw a man coming out of the city, and they said to him, "Pray, show us the way into the city, and we will deal kindly with you."
 So he showed them the entrance to the city, and they struck the city with the edge of the sword, but they let the man and all his family go free.25 And when he showed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.25 He showed them. So they got into the city and killed everyone there. But they let that man and his whole family go free.25 He showed them the entrance into the city; and they struck the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man go and all his family.25 And he showed them the way into the city; and they smote the city with the edge of the sword, but they let the man and all his family go.

 The man went into the land of the Hittites and built a city and named it Luz which is its name to this day.26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.26 The man went to the land of the Hittites. There he built a city and called it Luz. The city still has that name today.26 The man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.26 And the man went to the land of the Hittites and built a city, and called its name Luz; that is its name to this day.

 But Manasseh did not take possession of Beth-shean and its villages, or Taanach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages; so the Canaanites persisted in living in that land.27 Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.27 Now, the tribe of Manasseh did not force out the people of Beth Shean, Taanach, Dor, Ibleam, and Megiddo or their villages. The Canaanites were determined to live in this land.27 Manasseh did not drive out [the inhabitants of] Beth Shean and its towns, nor [of] Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.27 Manas'seh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-she'an and its villages, or Ta'a-nach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megid'do and its villages; but the Canaanites persisted in dwelling in that land.
 It came about when Israel became strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but they did not drive them out completely.28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.28 When the Israelites were strong enough, they made the Canaanites do forced labor. But they did not force all of them out.28 It happened, when Israel had grown strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and did not utterly drive them out.28 When Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but did not utterly drive them out.
 Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites who were living in Gezer; so the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.29 Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.29 The tribe of Ephraim did not force out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer. So the Canaanites continued to live with them in Gezer.29 Ephraim didn't drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer; but the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.29 And E'phraim did not drive out the Canaanites who dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
 Zebulun did not drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, or the inhabitants of Nahalol; so the Canaanites lived among them and became subject to forced labor.30 Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.30 The tribe of Zebulun did not force out those who lived at Kitron or Nahalol. So the Canaanites continued to live with them and were made to do forced labor.30 Zebulun didn't drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites lived among them, and became subject to forced labor.30 Zeb'ulun did not drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, or the inhabitants of Na'halol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became subject to forced labor.

 Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, or the inhabitants of Sidon, or of Ahlab, or of Achzib, or of Helbah, or of Aphik, or of Rehob.31 Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:31 The tribe of Asher did not force out those who lived at Acco or Sidon, Ahlab, Achzib, Helbah, Aphek, or Rehob.31 Asher didn't drive out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;31 Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, or the inhabitants of Sidon, or of Ahlab, or of Achzib, or of Helbah, or of Aphik, or of Rehob;
 So the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.32 But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.32 So the tribe of Asher continued to live with the Canaanites because they did not force them out.32 but the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.32 but the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.
 Naphtali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, or the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; and the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath became forced labor for them.33 Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.33 The tribe of Naphtali did not force out those who lived at Beth Shemesh or Beth Anath. So they continued to live with the Canaanites. But the people of Beth Shemesh and Beth Anath were made to do forced labor.33 Naphtali didn't drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth Anath; but he lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and of Beth Anath became subject to forced labor.33 Naph'tali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-she'mesh, or the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-she'mesh and of Beth-anath became subject to forced labor for them.
 Then the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill country, for they did not allow them to come down to the valley;34 And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:34 The Amorites forced the tribe of Dan into the mountains and would not let them come down into the valley.34 The Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill country; for they would not allow them to come down to the valley;34 The Amorites pressed the Danites back into the hill country, for they did not allow them to come down to the plain;
 yet the Amorites persisted in living in Mount Heres, in Aijalon and in Shaalbim; but when the power of the house of Joseph grew strong, they became forced labor.35 But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.35 The Amorites were determined to live at Har Heres, Aijalon, and Shaalbim. But when the tribes of Joseph became stronger, they made the Amorites do forced labor.35 but the Amorites would dwell in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became subject to forced labor.35 the Amorites persisted in dwelling in Har-heres, in Ai'jalon, and in Sha-al'bim, but the hand of the house of Joseph rested heavily upon them, and they became subject to forced labor.
