The Day of the Lord
|1 Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.||1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.||1 Brothers and sisters, you don't need anyone to write to you about times and dates.||1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.||1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that ye should be written to,||2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.||2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.||2 You know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.||2 For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.||2 for ye know perfectly well yourselves, that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief by night.||3 While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.||3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.||3 When people say, "Everything is safe and sound!" destruction will suddenly strike them. It will be as sudden as labor pains come to a pregnant woman. They won't be able to escape.||3 For when they are saying, "Peace and safety," then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.||3 When they may say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon her that is with child; and they shall in no wise escape.||4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;||4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.||4 But, brothers and sisters, you don't live in the dark. That day won't take you by surprise as a thief would.||4 But you, brothers, aren't in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.||4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief:||5 for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;||5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.||5 You belong to the day and the light not to the night and the dark.||5 You are all children of light, and children of the day. We don't belong to the night, nor to darkness,||5 for all ye are sons of light and sons of day; we are not of night nor of darkness.||NASB||KJV||GWT||WEB||DBY|
|6 so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.||6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.||6 Therefore, we must not fall asleep like other people, but we must stay awake and be sober.||6 so then let's not sleep, as the rest do, but let's watch and be sober.||6 So then do not let us sleep as the rest do, but let us watch and be sober;||7 For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night.||7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.||7 People who sleep, sleep at night; people who get drunk, get drunk at night.||7 For those who sleep, sleep in the night, and those who are drunk are drunk in the night.||7 for they that sleep sleep by night, and they that drink drink by night;||8 But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.||8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.||8 Since we belong to the day, we must be sober. We must put on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet.||8 But let us, since we belong to the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation.||8 but we being of the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as helmet the hope of salvation;||9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,||9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,||9 It was not God's intention that we experience his anger but that we obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.||9 For God didn't appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,||9 because God has not set us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,||10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.||10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.||10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake in this life or asleep in death, we will live together with him.||10 who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.||10 who has died for us, that whether we may be watching or sleep, we may live together with him.||NASB||KJV||GWT||WEB||DBY|
|11 Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.||11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.||11 Therefore, encourage each other and strengthen one another as you are doing.||11 Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.||11 Wherefore encourage one another, and build up each one the other, even as also ye do.|
|12 But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction,||12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;||12 Brothers and sisters, we ask you to show your appreciation for those leaders who work among you and instruct you.||12 But we beg you, brothers, to know those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you,||12 But we beg you, brethren, to know those who labour among you, and take the lead among you in the Lord, and admonish you,||13 and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another.||13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.||13 We ask you to love them and think very highly of them because of the work they are doing. Live in peace with each other.||13 and to respect and honor them in love for their work's sake. Be at peace among yourselves.||13 and to regard them exceedingly in love on account of their work. Be in peace among yourselves.||14 We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.||14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.||14 We encourage you, brothers and sisters, to instruct those who are not living right, cheer up those who are discouraged, help the weak, and be patient with everyone.||14 We exhort you, brothers, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient toward all.||14 But we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the faint-hearted, sustain the weak, be patient towards all.||15 See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.||15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.||15 Make sure that no one ever pays back one wrong with another wrong. Instead, always try to do what is good for each other and everyone else.||15 See that no one returns evil for evil to anyone, but always follow after that which is good, for one another, and for all.||15 See that no one render to any evil for evil, but pursue always what is good towards one another and towards all;||NASB||KJV||GWT||WEB||DBY|
|16 Rejoice always;||16 Rejoice evermore.||16 Always be joyful.||16 Rejoice always.||16 rejoice always;||17 pray without ceasing;||17 Pray without ceasing.||17 Never stop praying.||17 Pray without ceasing.||17 pray unceasingly;||18 in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.||18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.||18 Whatever happens, give thanks, because it is God's will in Christ Jesus that you do this.||18 In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.||18 in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus towards you;||19 Do not quench the Spirit;||19 Quench not the Spirit.||19 Don't put out the Spirit's fire.||19 Don't quench the Spirit.||19 quench not the Spirit;||20 do not despise prophetic utterances.||20 Despise not prophesyings.||20 Don't despise what God has revealed.||20 Don't despise prophesies.||20 do not lightly esteem prophecies;||NASB||KJV||GWT||WEB||DBY|
|21 But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;||21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.||21 Instead, test everything. Hold on to what is good.||21 Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good.||21 but prove all things, hold fast the right;||22 abstain from every form of evil.||22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.||22 Keep away from every kind of evil.||22 Abstain from every form of evil.||22 hold aloof from every form of wickedness.||23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.||23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.||23 May the God who gives peace make you holy in every way. May he keep your whole being-spirit, soul, and body-blameless when our Lord Jesus Christ comes.||23 May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.||23 Now the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly: and your whole spirit, and soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.||24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.||24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.||24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do this.||24 He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.||24 He is faithful who calls you, who will also perform it.||25 Brethren, pray for us.||25 Brethren, pray for us.||25 Brothers and sisters, pray for us.||25 Brothers, pray for us.||25 Brethren, pray for us.||NASB||KJV||GWT||WEB||DBY|
|26 Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.||26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.||26 Greet all the brothers and sisters with a holy kiss.||26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.||26 Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.||27 I adjure you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brethren.||27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.||27 In the Lord's name, I order you to read this letter to all the brothers and sisters.||27 I solemnly command you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the holy brothers.||27 I adjure you by the Lord that the letter be read to all the holy brethren.||28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.||28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
